Young Pioneer Disaster Response (YPDR)

UCF grant enables hire of local carpenters
Young Pioneer Disaster Response (YPDR) is a start-up NGO registered in both the Philippines and the USA which was formed by four friends in the aftermath of Super Typhoon Yolanda (international name Haiyan). Yolanda made landfall in the Philippines on 8 November 2013 and left massive devastation in its wake. Since then, together with their partners, YPDR have built 917 houses and retrofitted 128 more, rehabilitated 17 classrooms and built a new 3-classroom building, treated more than 3,500 medical patients, and much more.

Peachey Place Living Skills Centre

Peachey Place Living Skills Centre is a partnership of five agencies, Playford Primary Health, Housing SA, City of Playford, Association of the Burundian Community of SA and Lutheran Community Care. Lutheran Community Care is the lead organisation for this partnership.

Peachey Place Living Skills Centre is a collaborative, innovative project that has created a community hub for the Davoren Park Community. The motto for Peachey Place is Connect, Learn and Live Well.

Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA)

New trot poles for Oakbank centre
In 2014 RDA relocated their state office from Maylands to Oakbank and no longer had access to trot poles. They use these poles to teach lessons, using them to set up trail & traffic courses for riders to navigate different courses, or to step over when training horses.

The UCF small grant was used to buy twenty new 3-metre poles in the centre’s colours.

Training Online Support for Youth Suicide Intervention – Adelaide
In 2 Life have been established since 2001 and have over twelve years experience in the youth sector. They have a strong track record in the creation and delivery of programs that support marginalised youth in Australia. Their staff and volunteers are very experienced in youth issues and the needs of youth today.

Tragically, youth suicide in Australia is alarmingly high. The Facebook group Coming Together to Prevent Youth Suicide was established in June 2012 by two young people in Melbourne after a series of 10 suicides across 3 schools in one region.

Asbestos Diseases Society of South Australia (ADSSA)

Asbestos Awareness Training – Adelaide
ADSSA was incorporated in 2005 to look after the needs of victims of Asbestos Related Diseases (ARDs).  ADSSA employs a Social Worker on a part time basis to look after the needs of victims, their families, carers, relatives etc.

It has, in recent years, embarked on Asbestos Awareness Training to all people in South Australia – conducting workshops in businesses, clubs, social groups and for home renovators.

RUSH Mentoring Programme
In 2 Life is an early intervention mentoring and life skills programs for troubled and vulnerable young people aged 12-16 who are experiencing significant difficulties at home, school and in their local community.

The focus of this project is on the RUSH Mentoring Program which provides a vital school-based and /or after hours mentoring program to assist young people to develop a significant adult relationship to assist them in overcoming any personal crisis and/or negative life experiences that may eventuate.

The UCF grant of $2,000 will enable In 2 Life to train 25 volunteer mentors to work with new arrival and refugee young people aged 8-18 years.

Restoring Sight Project
The 2h Project is a not for profit Australian development organisation working with local communities in developing countries to bring help and build hope for the poor and disadvantaged.

The focus of The 2h Project is in Cambodia, in rural, remote and urban environments covering four broad areas of development; micro-enterprise, land and housing development, medical initiatives, training and education.

The Directors of Universal Charitable Fund recently approved a grant of $2,000 to contribute toward the cost of training nurses who will assist people through cataract surgery which will restore the sight of many people.
